1. Fleas

One of the most common pet problems is these easy-to-get pests. Luckily, they are ways to get rid of and even avoid these pests altogether. Signs to look for include:

• scratching
• patchy hair loss
• red, swollen skin
• flea dirt on the fur

Contact your vet if your pet is experiencing any of these signs. Shampoo, spray, pills, or a topical medicine may be given to kill the fleas and their eggs. The easiest way to avoid fleas is to get flea prevention medication at the yearly pet exam.

2. Diarrhea/Vomiting

At some point, one of these unpleasant stomach issues will strike your pet. Most of the time, it's nothing serious to worry about. Your pet may have eaten something that disagreed with it. It may have a 24-hour virus just like humans get. Just let your pet rest. Make sure it has access to plenty of fresh water. Dehydration can occur quickly with diarrhea and vomiting. If it persists for more than 24 hours, call your vet.

3. Allergies

An allergy is the body's response to any number of foreign materials. Just like humans, your pets can have reactions to things like:
